Pakistan (Country threat level - 5)

A statement released on 5 June 2008 on an al-Qaeda run Web site claims responsibility for a recent car bomb attack on the Danish Embassy in Islamabad. The 2 June bombing left six people dead and 25 injured and also destroyed part of the embassy building. The Web site posting warned of further attacks and claimed that the bombing was in retaliation for Danish newspapers reprinting a controversial cartoon depicting an image of the Prophet Muhammad. Officials could not verify the authenticity of the Web site message and have not determined who carried out the bombing.

China (Country threat level - 3)

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Sichuan region on 5 June 2008. There have been no reports of any casualties or damage. The aftershock delayed efforts by crews working to drain water from the swollen Tangjiashan lake, otherwise known as the “quake lake,” which was created by the major earthquake on 12 May. Officials have indicated that the water level of Tangjiashan is critical, and efforts to drain the lake could backfire should the water level breach the barriers that have been erected; seepage is already visible. Authorities have been evacuating residents downstream from the lake as crews work to dig diversion channels to lead water away from it.
